What is the difference between Cornell's state-assisted and endowed colleges?
Cornell University is a private Ivy League university with a unique public mission. Of Cornell's seven undergraduate colleges, three are state-assisted, while the other four are privately endowed.
The three state-assisted undergraduate colleges of Cornell, the College of Agriculture and Life Science, the College of Human Ecology, and the School of Industrial and Labor Relations, were created by an Act of State Legislature and receive partial funding from New York State. Our mission is linked directly to the economic and social well being of the State of New York.
Cornell's endowed colleges are privately funded and do not receive direct funding from New York State. Only Cornell's three state-assisted colleges host Transfer Day. If you're interested in Engineering, Arts and Sciences, Architecture, Art, and Planning, or the Hotel School, contact the appropriate admissions office to arrange a visit.
